OMNISHAMBLES
Y'all. It's been kind of nuts today.
I've been back home since the 2nd of this month, and was going through a really dry spell. Multiple submissions but not one nibble, not even one. I haven't been in the industry for a long time, but this has never happened to me before. During each subsequent submission I've received I've still been at my current assignment. I got a really great sounding opportunity in Colorado while I was still working in Virginia, and I kind of thought that was going to be the real deal. I believe I put in for about 10 submissions all together, and though some dropped off some were still there but the facilities were just moving at a snail's pace in moving forward with hiring applicants. It happens, I suppose. Everyone was doing what they were supposed to be doing, but again, just a dry spell.
This afternoon, I received an email from the Benefits department of my company saying my health insurance was going to be terminated by the end of the month because of my lack of a job. Needless to say, I freaked out. Like, ugly freaked out with the half sobbing/half hysterics and quite literally cried out to God, figuring out what I was going to do. Listen, I need health insurance, y'all, and mine is REALLY good. Then, a few minutes later my phone rang and it was the program director from a facility in Washington (the state) that I submitted for. It was a nice interview, the lady was really nice and the opportunity sounded really great. However, I google mapped it, and it's a freaking 36 hour drive. She asked if I wanted the job and I said I would have to think about it. It was either that or fly there and then figure out how to get around, and to be honest the thought sort of overwhelmed me. Not to mention I am not licensed in Washington and would have had to apply for a license (which according to my fill-in recruiter takes about 3-4 weeks....ugh.)
So by now you're probably wondering why I'm writing in the past tense???? It's because about an hour later, I got ANOTHER phone call from the University of Iowa hospital, and it was the nurse manager! We talked for about 15 minutes, and near the end of our conversation he said "well, I'd really like to offer you the job." BOOM. I accepted, and I start October 9!!! Like I said, whirlwind of a day! But geez o pete, y'all. One of these days, I'll just trust God for real that He's got me! But you know, I think these kinds of things are supposed to happen, because they build us up. Our foundations may get a little shaken or stirred, but God. BUT GOD. I swear I'm getting that as a tattoo one day. So in the meantime, I'm going to try and find somewhere to live while I'm there and figure out how bleeping cold it's going to be!
