Looking back and looking ahead

Currently trying to kick some bronchitis in the butt. Yay. I've got 2 weeks left here on my "tour of duty" here in Ohio as my dad calls it, and the doc at the urgent care asked if I wanted a work excused. I said I was just going to suck it up....go tough as nails nurses! Anyway, yesterday marked my 4 year anniversary of graduating from Berea. It seems like just yesterday when I took that walk across that stage on a very chilly and rainy day in May. It's a day I still remember like it was yesterday. OH....I almost forgot to mention!!!!! On April 25, I signed a contract for adventure #3.

Drum roll please...(no it's not Connecticut or Boston). Salem, Virginia! It's about 20 minutes outside of Roanoke, so I am quite pleased. It will be the longest solo drive for me (about 6 hours away from home), so yeah! Please pray for safe travels and a smooth transition, as I'm opting to take the stipend this go around and have found a nice extended stay hotel in which the rooms are set up like apartments, and it's less than 10 minutes away from where I'll be working. It will definitely be a new endeavor for me, but the lady I've talked to via email seems super nice so far, and this place got some pretty good reviews. Ok, now that I've teetered down that rabbit hole farther than I intended to, let me continue what I was previously going to talk about.

Anyway, 4 years sure does go by fast, doesn't it? And 5 years ago today, I was watching my sister take that walk across the stage to get her degree! WOW!!!! SAY WHAT??!! Hard to believe. But anyway, I put a picture up on my Facebook yesterday of me in my graduation regalia with this big grin on my face. I looked at it yesterday and saw the eagerness and relief of it all being over, but there was also a bit of fear edged in there too. That fear of "oh crap, what have I gotten myself into?" and the "fear the big bad NCLEX!!" It was over, but not really. All of the safety nets were cut at that point, and I couldn't fall back on the "well, I'm just a nursing student." I would be responsible for other people. I would have a license and be responsible for other staff members carrying out their duties, and if they didn't, it was my fault. Not to mention facing a whopping 265 question computerized exam to boot. Lucky for me, I passed the test and I have enjoyed the journey so much so far! I never thought in a million years I would end up where I am now. Back then, I didn't even know travel nursing existed! Limitless possibilities to a limitless God. That's exactly how I would describe these last 4 years.

Today marks the beginning of Nurses Week, a nationally recognized week for us in scrubs. Today is nurse's day, and let me tell you it is something we should all be very proud of. To be a nurse is to go above and beyond regular duty and to consciously choose to put the needs of others over your own. So here's to you, Nurses! Now, I have some online modules to finish up before I start my new tour of duty in VA. Should be fun. By the way, this post brought to you by my new HP Stream notebook after my sister's clunker as we call it finally bit the dust about a week ago. I've had my new notebook since Wednesday and it's AWESOME!!!! Anywho, time to learn some stuff!
