Astute observations from a new nightshifter
I posted this on my Facebook yesterday but figured it would be appropriate to share on here as well.
-There are some rather interesting folks that for whatever reason are attracted to nights, but they're probably the nicest people you will ever meet.
-We like our pizza. And brownies. At 3am most of the time.
-Who knew those cabinets and drawers had so much junk in them?!
-You will be startled at least two or three times when the phone rings.
-I thought since less folk are around the computers may work a bit faster. They don't.
-You will never know the true meaning of being tired when your entire unit is asleep, your work is done and there's still 5 hours left until your shift ends.
That's just to name a few. I'm most certain I will keep a running list as my endeavors burning the midnight oil will continue. To be honest, it's not as difficult of a transition as I anticipated it would be. Granted, last night it took me FOREVER to fall asleep, because I think at one point my brain was tricked, thinking "aren't you supposed to be up?" I've established somewhat of a routine that works; I get home from work (usually in between 7:30-8:00), take a shower, eat breakfast and go to sleep, by that point it's between 8:15-8:30 by the time I get to bed. I get up around 4-5, piddle around, make dinner and leave my apartment around 6:30 and my shift starts at 7. Plus for the most part my nights I work are lumped together, so it's definitely a lot easier for me to get used to it I think so far I still like working during the daytime, but we'll see. Maybe after all of this is over I'll be a full fledged convert. And again everyone is really nice! I have still yet to meet my actual boss but am hoping that will happen sometime soon...makes it more difficult being a night owl I suppose. I'm just really hoping I don't gain so much weight from all the pizza we seem to order; someone ordered pizza every night and offered to share with all of us every time. And it wasn't the crappy pizza; it was the good stuff!
2 more weeks down, 11 to go! Seems like again it's going to go by really fast, and so far it's been a really good experience. Now that the computer system doesn't hate me and I've started to get a feel for what the unit is like, I presume it will only continue to go uphill from there.
