Settling in a bit close to home

I moved into my new apartment for my second travel assignment this weekend and have completed 4 out of 5 days of orientation for this new gig. I moved my stuff this past Saturday, but didn't move in in until Sunday; in all honesty I think my parents felt bad for me because I would have basically had nothing to do. But on Sunday I was plenty distracted with unpacking and situating the place, so that kept me busy for a while. Mom came with me and in the morning we grocery shopped and got some things that I may need for the next few days. We had lunch together, she left and I've been on my own ever since. It's really nice being a little closer to home; I feel like that's where I need to be right now, and it's a good feeling. The only hangups I've had with the place is #1, it's MUCH smaller than my previous apartment, but that's ok. #2, there's no central heat or air, and I'm not very sure how to use the gas heater (not that I've NEEDED it anyway). #3, there aren't a lot of outlets, so I've had to become very creative, and extension cords are a godsend! I'm actually thinking about going up this weekend, as I'll be starting on my unit Monday night. Yes. Night. I suppose I'll have to learn how to become a night owl, but hopefully things may change, but if not...well, as I say, it is what it is. I'm sure in due time I'll learn to adjust and by the time I'm ready to leave I'll be used to it...haha. Got internet and some cable set up here a few days ago, so that's been nice, being connected and able to watch a bit of telly so I don't go bored out of my skull. If you're not from this area, you'll realize....there's not really a whole lot to do. But that's ok. Maybe it's time to pursue that Master's degree I really don't want...

The hospital is quite big, and judging from the sounds of the unit it seems like I'm really going to like it. It's only a 14 bed unit, which compared to most is not that big. The last place I was at had 16 and at my first job there were 18. (This is all geri psych by the way). I've met two of the nurses who'll be working on my unit too (both travel nurses). We had the opportunity to meet with one of the staff earlier this week and it seems like they all run a pretty tight ship; the impression I got was that everyone who works there actually LIKES working there. I'm still not even entirely sure where the actual unit is (I think it's on the 3rd floor???), but all in due time will be revealed. I'm excited; a bit apprehensive, but I think that is to be expected, of course. I foresee that the next 13 weeks are going to go by really quickly!
