The Adventure of the Off to Work in the Nasty Weather!

I've been off work for the last 2 days, and good riddance too! Let's just say after Tuesday I am ready to say sianora to this nasty winter business. To those of you praying for snow; STOP! I think we got the message. Anyway, I woke up Tuesday morning to snow. Not the little pitiful typical Kentucky snow which barely covers the ground and is gone by the end of the day. No. The ground was covered, I couldn't see the hood of my car and it was still coming down! I don't have any official measurements, but I would assume there was at least 3 inches, and today it's finally starting to melt. It's still freaky-deaky cold out and my drive way is still a solid sheet of ice and my car has not moved since Tuesday. Not even sure it's going to start. Anyway, so I called work and asked if there was any way I didn't have to come in. There wasn't, so I left my house at 1:35 in the afternoon. I usually leave at 2 and give myself an hour, because around Lexington you just never know. So I hit the road and everything was in good shape, until I got on the interstate and was close to getting off.

Around 10 after 2 I received a phone call from my sister and she asked me if I was on the road. I said I was. She told me around mile marker 107 (I get off at 104) there was an accident and that traffic was backed up. So around mile marker 102, traffic started slowing down. It was around 2:15 at this point, so I thought I was still in good shape. I waited in traffic for about 15 minutes, got off my exit and started driving. I went about 2 miles and traffic started slowing down again. It was a little bit after 2:30 at this point, so I was starting to get nervous. I still don't know what happened to cause the slow down, but about 10 minutes later when I realized I had barely moved in the traffic flow, I called work and told them I was probably going to be late. They were cool with it, because hey, there wasn't anything I could do about it. The time went by slowly, and by this point I had to pee really badly; hey, don't drink 2 glasses of water with lunch! Traffic barely moved, but I managed to maneuver around it by bypassing through my friend's apartment complex. FINALLY got to work at 3:20. Yes. Do the math. Left my house at 1:35 and arrived at 3:20. My typical commute to work is anywhere between 35-40 minutes. Utter insanity. But that night due to our patients being all chill, I got to leave an hour early!

So that was Tuesday. I have not left the house at all since that day, with the exception of getting the mail and taking a walk when sis got off work yesterday. And that's just fine with me. This cold snap doesn't look like it's going to let up anytime soon either; and I'm back on this weekend. Hopefully all will be well!
