This past Tuesday and Thursday, some of my classmates and I got to spend some time in Hyden at Frontier Nursing University. We stayed at the Wendover Bed and Breakfast, which is located a few mins. away from the campus. The weather on Tuesday was GORGEOUS; a bit warm but very pleasant for the most part.

The first day was spent learning a bit about Frontier's founder, Mary Breckinridge. The nurses in her time at Frontier used to have to travel on horseback to get to their patients; sometimes it'd take them all day to get where they needed to go! I can't even imagine what that would be like today! After a history lesson we all had some time to look around and enjoy Wendover. We then got served a delicious dinner...ALL homemade. Fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls and salad. Peach cobbler for dessert which was to DIE FOR!!!! We ate and congregated in the Big House as it was called, which was the home of Mary Breckinridge.

Some of my classmates that evening got in to a bit of shenanigans, which involved clear trash bags, a pink sheet toga and pranking the guys. I ducked out; in light of my Grandpa's recent passing I sought for some alone time. Yesterday, we got up and had a feast of a breakfast! Scrambled eggs, hash browns, potato pancakes, biscuits, apples, gravy, and of course coffee for me! :) We then headed up to campus and took a tour. It was up on a REALLY BIG HILL out in the middle of nowhere! And the worst part was it was chilly and rained...all day. It had rained the previous night before pretty much all night, accompanied with thunder and lightning. Needless to say we were all pretty tired. We got to see the dorm, which was really nice. All the students from previous classes painted murals on the walls, so each room was decorated differently. And last but not least, we saw the brick. The Brick was a brick shipped over from England from the home of Florence Nightingale. Rumor has it that if nursing students rub this brick then they will pass their boards the first time. So yes, we all rubbed it...vigorously.

Overall it was a wonderful trip. But the weather was crappy and I didn't sleep well the first night, so by the end of the day I was ready to go home! I'm really glad we were able to pull this trip off; I think it was nice for us to get out from the books and papers and just enjoy ourselves for a bit. 2 and a half more weeks to go until G-day as I'm calling it. It's close! But we're ready!
