Moms, high schoolers, babies and information: 2 weeks of catch up!

Hi. My name is Kelly Korb and I am a slacker.

One of the many drawbacks of being in nursing school is getting bombarded with a plethora of homework right at the last minute! Hence why I didn't blog last week, as I was trying to not drown in such plethora of homework. Still have a bit to do, but I'm wading in it, not drowning. So for now, all is well. :] Last Thursday I was at one of the high schools where I got to shadow the school nurse. She was AWESOME! It was so evident that she had developed such a strong rapport with the students; she said some of them call her mom. I saw what seemed typical of high school students; headaches, not feeling well, backaches, sore throats, what have you. There were a few...out of the ordinary cases, but other than that it seemed very routine. When there weren't any students we would just talk, laugh and share stories of our experiences as nurses...or in my cases some encounters I've endured while venturing down the nursing student path. We both had some good stories, none of which bear repeating, but anyway. It was lots of fun. Me thinks maybe I'd like school nursing. Who knows? This past Thursday was pretty...quiet. I KNOW. I SAID A CURSE WORD in the nursing world! But it was! I put together asthma information and did research for a website. Ain't nothing to it!

Last Saturday was another interesting milestone in my college arsenal; breast feeding mothers! I spent the day with a lactation consultant, which was really really fun but oh my goodness I was WORN OUT. From 7:55 until 12:45 I maybe sat down 10-15 minutes. It was go go go go from the very start, but it sure made the time go by fast! Today (just got home actually) was super fast too! It was also our LAST DAY of Maternity clinicals!!! Hey, I'm just happy I get my Saturdays back for the rest of the semester; looking forward to sleeping in, getting stuff done and catching up on a MUCH needed sister date or two! Anyway, I was on the post partum unit and spent most of the morning helping out a mother after a pretty rough delivery. Other than that I took vitals and felt funduses...or fundi...or whatever the plural of fundus is. Yep! Then my group went out to eat!!

My maternity journey is now over, but I've still got 2 more community rotations and THEN I'll be done with this semester!!!!!! After that, one more to go! Graduation is near and I cannot wait!
